My love for photography truly started as team photographer mom for my sons’ baseball and golf teams. I photographed my older son as he played Little League baseball through college baseball. I photographed my younger son through Little League baseball and High School Varsity golf.
Over the years my preference is Travel & Street photography.
It is so hard to narrow down to one specific trip. While I have loved everywhere that I have traveled, if I am limiting my favorite trip to places that have resonated with me from a photographic standpoint then it would have to be Cuba. I would have to say my recent trip to Vinales and Havana would top my list. While I have traveled to many places, my heart stays in Cuba. I love the warmth and generosity of its people and the photography is beautiful, genuine and timeless.
I would love to spend two years traveling throughout France and Italy. There is so much history and culture in both of these places. To really experience the people and culture, I’d love to spend a year in each country.
I will be traveling to Provence on a hiking trip and then to Botswana. I hope to take one more trip to Cuba and photograph the arts and music in Havana.
Avoid looking like a travel photographer. Minimize your camera gear, and minimize yourself. Blend in. My camera gear does not look like camera gear. It is typically black. My gear including my camera strap does not advertise my camera’s name. I leave my lens cap and lens hood in my camera bag so I am ready to take the shot.
Additionally, don’t hold your camera to your eye until it is time to create a photograph. Think about the technical, compositional and artistic aspects of the image before the camera reaches your eye.
Editing my images! I work out regularly, catch up with friends, watch our local Houston Astros Baseball team with my husband, visit with my boys and teach photography.
I always wanted to be a professional singer. While I did perform on stage and locally, that would have been my dream but life got in the way.
Just to continue to see and photograph the world and all those in it.
Yes. When I am traveling I’m always looking for images to add to my “Forms of Communication” theme. I’d like to create a book with these images someday.
Blink my eyes and land in the country of my next adventure with all of my bags packed!
About the photographer
Carmody Baker spent over twenty years in courtrooms around the country as a trial attorney for an international law firm. In her free time, she was team mom photographer for her boys’ baseball and golf teams. Upon retirement from the practice of law, she picked up her camera in earnest. For the past ten years, she has been traveling the world capturing one image at a time and always searching for moments of grace.
As named one of the 100 female photographers to watch in
2019 by Click & Company. The publication states, “Carmody’s
images are like the most beautiful trip around the world without the jet lag and TSA lines. Her use of color and geometry creates order in every frame and yet there is softness that keeps her work from feeling cold or sterile. She is our favorite kind of travel photographer.”
She teaches photography locally and gives back by teaching
photography to underprivileged youth.
