Badlands Female Photography Workshop

May 13th – 17th, 2020

The Badlands are a photographers dream come true! Its dramatic landscapes span layered rock formations, steep canyons, and towering spires. The textures, colors, and scale make this one of my favorite places to photograph landscapes! The skies come alive at night with millions of stars and the milky way. Bison, bighorn sheep, deer and prairie dogs call the park home.

Day 1

The itinerary will remain flexible to accommodate weather changes.

  • Meet and greet and sunset shoot. Exact times and location TBD. Note – this will be optional as I don’t know if everyone will get in on time.

Instruction will be given and offered at all times, but there are certain times where we will be covering certain topics.

Sunrise is around 5:30 am and sunset at 8 pm. The milky way comes out its earliest at this time of year. So we have a good chance of photographing it.

This course is for all levels. Both beginners and advanced photographers will walk away with new skills.

Participants should expect moderate activity. Most of our locations will be close by the parking lots. However, there will be optional hikes that require a higher level of activity.

So that I can work closely with all students the group will be limited to 8 females.

Mininum Student Requirement. – 4 students

Recommended gear requirements are a DSLR or mirrorless camera, camera bag, tripod, filters, wide angle lens with a large aperture, portrait lens, and zoom lens. A full list with details and specific products will be emailed to you.

Planning Your Travel

The nearest airport to the park is in Rapids City, South Dakota. From there the drive is about an hour to Wall, South Dakota where we are staying. We will carpool when photographing together. I recommend having a car of your own to explore the park.

You are responsible for booking your lodging. I will be staying at the Days Inn in Wall. If there is bad weather this is where we will meet for course instruction. There will be a Facebook group for students and you can arrange to share a room or a car there.

Cost – $1200

Registration will open on  5/17/2019 at 9 am CST

Down payment of $400 is necessary to secure a spot. The remainder must be paid within 2 weeks of the workshop date.
